The Hopewell Valley Lacrosse (HVL) Little Laxers program is an introductory program offered in Hopewell for beginner lacrosse players, both boys and girls, in grades K-2nd. The program offers an introduction to the sport in a relaxed environment with a focus on basic skill development. Our purpose is to show beginners the fun of the game while learning the fundamentals, and it serves as a feeder program for Hopewell Valley Lacrosse that starts in 3rd grade.
The program will be held over the course of 6 weeks (on Sunday afternoons) this Spring - from Sunday, April 22 to Sunday, June 3 (no session on Memorial Day weekend), at the Toll Gate Grammar School in Pennington. The sessions will run from 3:00 – 3:45p. The fee for the program is $100 per child.
Membership in US Lacrosse is required of all players, which is an additional $25 that can be purchased during the program application process. Registration can be done through the Register Online link on the Hopewell Valley Lacrosse website.
We will continue some of the new elements added last year in order to make it an even more rewarding time of learning and playing for the kids. Both boysandgirls, will be playing a form of lacrosse called Chumash. You can find more information on it here: http://www.rock-itpocket.com/services/chumash.htm. Essentially, it is a 3 v 3 game with flat goals and no goalkeeper – and the game is played around the goal which is in the middle of the field. It will give the older kids a chance to experience a more game like situation without increasing the demands or skill level above their ability.
We are honored to continue this introductory program for young players founded by Chris and Brogann Sanderson of Pennington. Their love of the game and excitement for teaching about the fun of lacrosse are core to the foundation of Hopewell Valley Lacrosse. HVL is especially pleased to continue the donation of all registration fees collected for Little Laxers program to the trust that has been created in memory of Chris for their two girls.
